    I have to start somewhere...

Hi all, I am new to turning and to this forum (well, okay, I lurked a while)... Here are - for your criticism, or just a good laugh - my first efforts... just to say a bit about them. They are all dip pens, obviously. They are shown, left to right, in the order they were made. The first is in...

    Dip pen parts?

I'd like to have a go at making a dip pen, probably in metal. Where do you folks buy your knibs and the tubular part (name?) that holds the knib itself? I do have a selection of old knibs somewhere but I don't know how suitable they are as they're quite old and some of them are very small. TIA.

Pen of the Week - 12 June 2017

This weeks Pen of the Week chosen by Bucks goes to the Caligraphy Dip Pen made by BradG. Paul said " There didn't seem to be many photos of pens posted this week but the one that stood out for me was Brad's Caligraphy Dip Pen. I just love the beauty and elegance this pen portrays " Here is the...

    Yet another dip pen!

Turned this one yesterday, my first turned with proper woodturning chisels - I've been using those carbide tipped thingies up until now. Bought a Sorby Pro Edge and now I can properly sharpen chisels, so the carbide tools are consigned to the drawer. Anyway, here's the first pen turned, an...

    Old Dip Pens

This is my collection of dip pens - some wood and some plastic but all well used and quite old - none made by me but rather some factory somewhere. After seeing fingwe's beautiful dip pens and being a skinflint I am considering refurbishing and using the ferrules from one or more to make...

    Even more dip pens!

    Ziricote Oblique Dip Pen Holder

I've mostly been working with acrylic recently, but I was wanting to turn a longer pen and all of my acrylic blanks were too short, so I found out this piece of Ziricote and turned an oblique dip pen holder. Finished with CA. I'm still not very confident with my turning on anything but the...

    A few more dip pens

I've been busy recently (and have had more than my fair share of issues accessing the forum), so I haven't had much chance to get on here, but here are some of my latest turned penholders. I originally cast the resin for my ergonomic pens, but thought I'd use a few of the blanks for turning...

    Dip Pens

I want to make a couple of Dip Pens for myself. I am after 2 Inserts and 2 Nibs. Looking on the internet they all come in packs of ten or so. Rather than buy the packs of which the majority will end up in a cupboard is there anyone who wants to sell me 2 sets or do a swap for a decent pen kit ...

    Dip Pens

I fancy having a go at making some Dip Pens. I have had a look on the Internet for a UK supplier but could not find any. Does anyone know where I can get kits for this project :thinks:

Picked up a collection of ink well stands

About sixty years ago Mulga was used extensively for most gift lines in Australia. So exciting as a timber species with the sapwood and holding its bark. Chucked in an Emporer with clothes on. Made for dip pen use it is around a foot across pushing the boundaries of my lighting open box. Peter.
