    Right Pig of a Day

Had better days before now. First off I had a beautiful blank of Black Palmira that decided to break in half (Lengthways) just as the drill bit was exiting, (Split with drill inside if you get my meaning). Oh well all is not lost as I had a lovely bit of Wenge that I could use. Cut blank to...

    A few more.

Hi all, Had a bit of a play.... these are once fired cases with new bullets fitted.... So I started by removing the lead from the bullets, a pair of smooth pliers and a blow torch. Next drill the 2mm hole in the bullet (from behind it self centers). I resized the cases with a reloading press...

    A First for me

Both a first followed by another chuffin mis-hap (nothing new there) First off I was drilling a hole in a brittle bit of acrylic and next thing it just broke up, I say broke up but exploded is nearer the mark. 12.5mm hole. This has never happened to me before and I am glad I was wearing a full...

    Almost finished 2

Hi all, another two for my Christmas customer, these are the TQ blanks I posted the other day.... The light blue is my favorite with diamond dust in the cast. I painted the hole light blue after drilling and used Gorilla PU to fix the tubes.

Knots cut on bandsaw on a piece of mahogany and set into maple using a hole saw. Also photo of the backside of the knots.

    Dara Knot Photographs

A couple of folk expressed interest about the process of making the Dara Knot. There are 4 cuts using a 25mm hole saw and 3 thicknesses of veneer. First and second cut and filling with veneer.....

    Pen press problems

I have a press, not sure of the make, that is good quality but I have a problem. The white plastic part with the hole in has over time become worn. The hole has enlarged and the pen tip (or in my case pointed part of a light pull kit) gets damaged on the nut in the bottom. Any suggestions as to...

    Cholla Levech

Hi all today has had its ups and downs, but I asked Mark Lewin for some Cholla cactus blanks, I have 2 of these green and a blue. I am extremely impressed with the cast, I did paint the inside of the hole a mid green.

Attn. engineers! what is causing this wobble?

Hey all. In my quest for "thinness" today I tried turning a blank with some new dimensions. Normally I thread the barrel to M16 on the outside, tapped to M12 on the inside, cap to M16 to attach to the barrel, the section has to be drilled 7.3mm to take the proprietary bock tap with an M12...

    First ones

Morning, new to the pen game. Turned averagely successful bowl type projects for many years - turned one pen blank ten years ago and then tried to drill the hole afterwards (!) - but have now converted with the initial obsession which I'm sure many will recognise. Attached the first attempts.

    Learning the hard way

Hi all, I bough some bowl blanks that were advertised on Ebay............mistake. I bought them some time ago and they have been kicking about the workshop for months so, as I have a day to myself, I thought I would turn a small bowl that I can finish today. I mounted the blank and started to...

    Trustone and Aluminum

Another from the other side of the pond. This is Tru Stone and Aluminum (or Aluminium) depending or you choice of beverage temperatures. :pint: Constructing the blank was interesting... Drilling the tube hole was very interesting... And the turning was  "successful." The theme was for...

    About to start using resin

I have bought some epoxy resin and i about to have a go at filling a hole in a flat piece of wood. I just want to get the hang of mixing it and seeing how it goes from there. My question is what do a put on the bottom of the hole to stop the resin running out. cheers

    Weird Wood

Hello all, Today I decided to make some wood pen blanks for some Sierra pens. I found a suitable piece of Burr Elm and prepared it for the brass tube only to find that the tube would not completely enter . I took the blank back to the drill thinking that all it needed was a cleaning out. Still...

    needs must

I have an idea for a turned piece which will require holes to be drilled around the stand eventually to have something put into them. Up until now I have managed to to get away with using a spanner on the nut behind the chuck and resting it on the bed, this allowed for either 2, 3or 6 holes to...

    Any ideas?

I’ve been scratching my head on how to best cut a cable hole/slot in the back of this unit on my boat. It’s underneath the gunwale and there’s a 6in height gap and 4.5in to the back of the unit under the gunwale. I was thinking an angle drill with a hole saw to fit one of those desk type cable...

Need some advice on forming a precise hole on the lathe with chisels

Ive decided to have a go at making some rings using stainless steel ring cores as the base. So Ive managed to make one successfully, but it now appears that was a fluke! Problem is I'm struggling to form the hole in my wood blank to take the ring core and the issue is that no matter what I try I...
