Not all wood, Not all Resin

One of my own pours. My blue abalone with dyed Big Leaf Maple cap ends, love the way the denser parts of the wood didn't take the dye Brad

    Pen assembly

This has probably been discussed but since I am not very good at forum searches thought it best to just ask. When you assemble twist pens that have a grain pattern that you are trying to match between the top & bottom sections of the pen how do you align the 2 parts? With the nib out as the pen...

    Clowning around

To tip or not to tip

Finished the lorry today made from tulip wood and mahogany. This is just a toy for a young great grandson so it was a decision as to whether to make the body tip so I decided to have it fixed when he is a little older then I can make one with some working parts. I have used chestnut products...

    UV resin

I recently thought I would invest in a bit of new "technology" to help me make blanks with inclusions, particularly watch parts pens. I'm referring to UV cured resin, which seemed ideal for fixing the parts to the tube. All went well placing the parts, but after casting, the outline of the resin...

    Ways to remove rust

Stumbling in U Tube ideas . Use a plastic storage box. In each corner stand and anchor clear of the fluids rebar rods joined using steel wire, never copper cause of the way it goes funny.Piece of wood to sit across the top to hold the object in the centre. Mix laundry soda 3 or 4 tablespoons in...

    Watch parts pens

Hi fellow pen turners, This is the first time that I have attempted to attach photos to a message so I hope that it worked. If so these are a few of my watch parts pens, they take a while but the results are worth it. Hope you like them.

    Bandsaw box

Made another box this time I faced the drawers with 3mm Purple Heart to give a contrast. The insides I finished with suede tec with works very well but the glue leeched through the masking tape in parts and into the wood. It sinks in deep and is a devil to remove hence the traces of blue.

    Forth attempt.

Hi all, This is the result of over three days work and four attempts, but I think it turned out OK in the end. Parts assembled well and without any problems. I quite like this one.

    Zephyr in Buckeye Burr

Last one for today and this is my favourite and a definite keeper. This is my first Zephyr and won't be my last. A really well machined kit with simple and perfectly fitting parts so easy to make up and a different looking pen from the norm

    Steampunk pen casting

One of my steampunk bolt action pens using watch parts, I used CA glue to bond the carbon braid to the brass tube then trimmed the carbon back each end on a disc sander. I made a set of dies to shape the watch parts the same diameter of the tube then anealed/cleaned and glued said watch parts to...

Custom Fountain, Second Clip Attempt and More

I have a gift for not knowing when I am in water over my head. Made my first clip. Then I said to myself, "Self...you know how to solder. There must be more. If you can solder, you can form a band. If you can solder and form a band, a plate added to a band makes a cap. No worries. How...
