1st go at turning a square dish

I thought I would have a go at turning a square dish. It's not quite even though, but for a first effort it's not too bad. The wood is Elm which I find difficult to work at times. It was very dry as it has been kicking around for a while. More practising tomorrow and looking forward to...

    Tools

I bought online a really nice carbide square tool the other day for about £27 with postage. And looking online they also go up to the £100ish. I’m awful at sharpening chisels so find swapping the heads on the tool better. But then I took a look and thought ‘I could make that’ After all I can...

    Problems with my drill setup

Hi, and Happy New Year to all! I have finally got round to getting some kit for pen turning. I went for the Axminster Precision Pro lathe in the end which looks to be a nice setup. I know it is limited in terms of size but for the foreseeable future I am focusing only on pens. One of the...

Well this is why I have not started any posts lately I have been busy one of my model adventures. All the wood cut out and then the parts cut out using templates. And today first on the list was set up a dust extractor for the bandsaw which arrived first thing this morning. Then it was time...

Help needed Can anyone make me a handle for my carbide insert?

I found a really interesting carbide insert here: CTD-L Carbide Teardrop Cutter, 1 3/4" x 3/4 x 1/8" - AZ Carbide I bought one, and now need a square shaft and handle to mount it on for use. It would need to be flat to the square section shaft, but inset so the cutting edge is level with the...

    Wonder Window blank?

Has anyone turned a Wonder Window blank? How exactly did you do it? The instructions say to turn it "roundish" so you can see where to cut and drill it. But it's rectangular, not square, so it won't center in a chuck. Maybe a spur drive with a spring loaded point? Exotic Blanks :: Guest...

    Trimline Unknown

I haven't turned a slimline pen in over ten years, and rarely turn 7mm pens these days. But I have a friend who prefers slimmer pens, and I had a 5/8" square blank. I decided on a Trimline kit, because I like the fatter waist. I have no idea what blank this is. It's nice looking, whatever it is.
