Alex,
If you want high grade steel for the bars go along to your local garage or breakers yard and ask them for any scrap suspension dampers. The bars inside those are very good quality steel and they are hard chrome plated

Are but i am at collage and they give me what ever i want if they have it and don't need it that minute so might get some from them

All I ever used was mild steel and stainless steel all it needs is the ability to not bend under the pressure wood will put on it I have even made the small one using silver steel and I have never had one bend on me yet ant the longest on I ever made was almost 5 ft long including the handle
