Thought I would post my first few attempts.....

First two are olive wood with antique polished bronze and the last is oak on gold

Constructive comments please!

Use a Draper mini lathe, Axminster chisels, and finish off with micro grit pads up to 16000, couple of coats of friction polish with shellac, then a pure carnuaba wax. Nothing fancy!

I like the fact that you haven't fallen into the trap of turning fat, curvy slimlines, which is the route that most people starting out seem to take. Keep on doing what you're doing - it's good so far.

Some great first pens. May I make a suggestion and that is to photograph them on a plain light coloured background preferably white like many do as it would show them off better

A great first trio of pens Al. They are turned & finished very nicely:thumbs:
Can I suggest you try Phil's method of using melamine. You can download the method from Phil's website, Beaufort Ink .co.uk,
You can find a link on Phil Darts posts. It will give you an easy method of a long lasting finish. Wax & shellac finishes look good at first but don't stand up to a lot of handling & soon go dull.
