I did these for a customer as a special request - she wanted a matching rollerball and pencil with a matt black finish as an anniversary present for her husband. Phil at Beaufort Ink came to my rescue, offering me a sample pencil kit as he was still waiting for the production ones to arrive. I also used his shoulder to cry on after I had made a very silly mistake when assembling the pen! I hope he keeps it to himself! Phil definitely deserves a special mention for the customer service he gave me. Many thanks, Phil. I hope the photos do justice to these lovely kits.

I love the matt effect Harry.

Crying on my shoulder is a bit off the mark though I think. We talked about various solutions to rectify the mistake - that would be more accurate. Don't worry though, your secret's safe with me. (I bet 90% of the people here have been there too on various kits at some time in the past)

I'm glad it's all worked out. I'm sure they will be very well received indeed. They look great.

i like those- what is the blank and how did you get the matt finish?

Thanks Mark! The blank is just a plain black acrylic finished with various grades of wet and dry paper used wet. The final grade was 1200 grit and I finished by rubbing along the length while turning by hand. I would normally then polish to a shine, but this time I stopped there! At that stage, I found that the barrels were very prone to fingermarks, so I cleaned them with meths and that helped a lot.

They look great. The matt finish is really nice, but one wonders whether it will stay matt or get polished in use?

Now there's an interesting statement some say handling of a polished pen will make it go matt but now we have handling may give it a polished finish (chew the cud) :goesred::winking:
