I got quite a few logs last week and have just finished cutting them to start the seasoning. All from the same site which has a large selection of specimen trees planted over the last couple of hundred years.
This particular one was a single misshaped twisted log that I though could be Hawthorne or similar. But it was Avery pleasant surprise when I did the first cut into it. Hopefully it stays looking this good when it drys out.
When you peel a strip of the bark off it is bright red underneath.
Any ideas what it is are would be helpful, not one I have seen before or at least not looking like this.

Me thinks you have found some Cercis Silaquestrum, aka the Love Tree or Judas Tree. Turns beautifully but splits like a goodun during the drying process. Cut it into pen blanks immediately!
