    Sirocco in a lucky find

    I got given a very old large board of an unknown wood from a local National trust property. It was still complete with saw marks and black on the outside. When cut, I was surprised to find some lovely green wood. I presume Tulip wood, the property had a large old specimen cut down a long time...

    Finally got around to turning a piece of the Zebrano - and I wanted to try one of the new Sirocco kits, here is the result. I was quite surprised at how hard the wood is, it made it more difficult to turn than anticipated. Finished with Melamine.

    Beaufort Sirocco in spalted hornbeam

    One of the new Sirocco pen kits in spalted hornbeam, with black chrome fittings. It's finished with melamine lacquer. The hornbeam is pretty far gone, and sadly a bit soft under the abrasives, so my nicely conceived profile ended up a bit thinner at it's waist than I'd planned, but thankfully...
