    A good mornings work

Enjoyed making these this morning, although the Spalted Cherry was a little more spalted than I thought. Plenty of CA held it together though. left to right - 2 x African Mahogany from a 1950 Rail carriage. Laburnum, Bog Oak and then the Spalted Cherry. Loving the Mistral in Gun metal & Bog...

    Two pieces

I am making a piece for our club competition and left it in the conservatory to let the paint dry forgetting how hot it can get in there as I placed it there last night. Anyway when I looked this morning the paint had bubbled and left it in a right mess so to console myself I decided to go and...

    First pen. Stolen!

Hi, I've been turning wood for about 6 months. On Sunday I made my first pen, a slimline out of boxwood. Yesterday I took it to work, went home and left it on my desk. This morning it's gone! I'm quite flattered that someone thought it worth nicking.

    Coloured Pencil

I like to do a bit of drawing so I thought I'd turn a mechanical pencil. It is turned from lime, the centre part which I have coloured and I think the darker wood is African blackwood. The kit is from Prokraft and I left the clip off because I think the shape looks better without it. Thanks for...

    Black Palm !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a go with some Black Palm today!!!! I made sure all the tools required were sharp, but this is a stubborn fibrous wood!! I'm posting this pen because I had to overcome many issues and in the end, I have a pen I'm fairly happy with, even if it is just for a family member rather than for...

    Unknow wood

Bowl from unknown wood possibly hawthorn I turned this yesterday but had to wait until today to complete the finish and remove the foot. Measures 8 1/2" X 2 1/4", I left the rim wide otherwise I would have lost a lot of the character of the wood even if I turned the blank the other way round

Hi all.....well i had a good day! I visited a local gun shop a while ago and noticed a rifle cartridge pen, i asked about it and entered into a conversation about pen turning.....well i went back today with a few samples of my bullet pens and left somewhat lighter and with a nice cheque...they...

Another ergonomic oblique dip pen holder

I made this one a little while ago, but had left it unfinished. I finally got around to sanding (done by hand, so my least favourite part of making - hence why it had been left a while) and polishing it last night. Hand cast polyurethane resin.

    A Bell for my Bella.

This was a nice project. I must start to colour the brass tubes when using resin. I think I could of left the resin another day before turning, it felt a little soft. A Bell for my Bella - YouTube

    Presentation boxes

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I wonder what presentation boxes people use for their "nicer" pens - especially fountain and roller-ball pens? After a trawl around the major UK suppliers, I am really stuck for a nice box to hold the pair of Mistrals I made. A call to one left me...

    Fifty shades of grey

The missus bought a Paperback, down Shepton Mallet way, I had a look inside her bag;... T'was "Fifty Shades of Grey". Well I just left her to it, And at ten I went to bed. An hour later she appeared; The sight filled me with dread. In her left hand she held a rope; And in her right a whip! She...

Who reads the notices in the left hand column on the home page?

If you go to the home page, you'll notice there's a column on the left hand side of the page. If you can't see it, click on the arrows on the far left, a little way down the page and it will "un-hide" itself. I've put notices there on a few occasion in the past and I'm just interested to know...

Any lefty bowl turners in here

I was making a pen today and i swap from a left hand hold on the chisel to a right hand hold without much trouble, in fact it feels a little more comfortable that holding it left handed. It made me think though, i am going to have a go at bowl making. Turning the base of the bowl will be ok but...
