    Friction Polish

Anyone here use friction polish to buff up your pens? I think this is the first time I have asked a question on here without me writing a 5 page essay before it

    Another dafty question

Another dafty question by yours truly. For those of you that use CA as a finish do you use the thin or the medium type? I only ask this as applying the 5 coats of thin yesterday to a pen seemed easier than when I have attempted (and mostly failed) to use the medium. Not sure if it was my...

    Sanding and Burnishing

When going through the grits whilst sanding how hard do I need to be pressing the sandpaper into the blank? and do I need to keep the same pressure when sanding with the lathe running as what I do for when it's not running? (I hope that makes sense) I suppose the same question applies when...

    Yet Another Bush Related Question

How critical is it when drilling the pen blanks that the size is spot on? If I have some tubes measuring 9.25mm do I drill 9.2 or 9.3? also could I get away with drill a 9.5 hole for a 9.4 tube? Really sorry for all these questions and in a few months I will look back on these and think what a...

CA Glue to resolve threading issue

Sorry if this has been asked before. I have trawled previous post but have not been able to find an answer. For some reason, the cap thread on a recent kitless pen is lose for the corresponding cut barrel thread. It does not screw on, rather it just slips on. I have CA glued the Cap, tapped...

    Follow up to Tell me

I couldn't go along with such a deceiving pen so I have removed the culprit and changed it to a more conventional clip. It's a pity as its quite nice pen. Just one more question can you get the ends ( yellow in picture but doesn't matter what colour) for the refills.

    Eucalyptus question

Hi, Sorry if this is not the right place for the question - really wasn't sure where to be! I was given some green eucalyptus logs which have been out to season. There's a beautiful figure when cut (that's another story!) and I wondered if I cut some into coasters, what should I finish them...

    Back AGAIN

Hi fellow penmakers I'm back again after a long absence and I have a question for you. Unfortunately its too dry:sob::sob::sob:The question is...

    Spring

Hi all, I have wondered for some time now about the springs in RB pens. One end of the spring is more tightly wound than the other. Does it make any difference which way around the spring is inserted? Not the world's most burning question, but I would like to know if there is a purpose to these...

    1930's blanks odd ID

Hi I've just purchased some 1930 acrylic blanks, they are already turned and pre-drilled,unfortunately only one has a 7mm hole, the others are around 6mm and 11mm, in other words none of my pen blanks will fit. So my question is, are there any pen kits this size available and how can I find out...

    Micromesh pads question

I've been wanting to try micromesh pads for a while. Even more so now that you guys are recommending them. In pretty much every youtube pen turning video I watch the CA is sanded with the pads so they are clearly a good product. My question is, how long do they last? I understand it's down to...

Silly question to ask a turner

I was asked a silly question for a turner. A lady came up to me and asked if I would like some walnut. being a turner the answer took all of 1 second to answer this question. A little recycling picked this little lot up today now totally knackered. It is walnut, has been laying there for about...
