    Yet another first dip-pen!

In Beech, tried to keep it simple and it turned out something less than delicate! Nice to write with though - being a bit thicker makes it easier for me to grip  Learned a few things along the way, hoping the next one will be a bit better looking

    Taking the Pith!

Managed to blank some small Olive bits this afternoon. Some of the younger timber has gone very light, but still interesting. I think there may be a bit of waste from the stuff on the right though!:funny:

Mandrel help for this setup and best starter pen kit + bushings

For startup and test I have bought this "turning jigg" for a drill machine. I would like to buy a mandrel that can be fitted into the chuck of the drill, so I am asking you for advice, I do want to buy something useful but I cannot use a mandrel with a built in cone or threaded connector. I...

    Extending my Garage/Workshop!

Just when I thought I couldn't find any more walls to knock down in this house, on Tuesday I decided I needed a bit more space in my small garage/workshop! So yesterday I set too knocking down a partition wall & pinching back just over 3ft of my wife's utility room to give me a bit more room LOL...

    Kappa in Bog Oak

Not posted for a while, been a bit to busy to turn anywhere near as much as I need to. Tried a Kappa with some Bog Oak, I like the look a little bit of bling but not to much. Finished with Melamine.

Identification on what type of Closed Pen Mandrel this is

Hi Penturners, I have found this mandrel in my filing cabinets after a lot of searching, I need a little bit more information on whether this is for Closed end Pens or as I Googled ..it seems to look like a bit similar to Duck Call Style mandrels sold in USA... If anyone knows Seller or has...

    Pyro pen

Something a bit different, the pyro work makes the finish look a bit bumpy but it is smooth to the touch.

    Eucalyptus burr

I made my first Mistral today and must say it's a fine kit however I should have read the instructions first. Deciding to put a bit of shape in to the barrel I tapered it and of course when it came to putting it together I'd gone the wrong way against the different size bushes if you know what I...

Another one off the "to do" list

Been on my list for a long time and I admit to struggling a bit to finish it, my boredom threshhold is low and the sanding was a bit tedious so don't know if I'll do it again though the kids say I have to so there's no fighting when I pop my clogs :funny: Wood is some kind of softwood I think...

    Burr finishing

Morning all, How do you finish the outside of a burr? I have a nice knobbly bit of oak burr, and was thinking of using finishing oil on the inside and top, but I am not sure what to put on the knobbly outside, and on the natural edge bit of the bowl. Any suggestions? I haven't really had much...

    A few in Oak

Our local pub has been undergoing a superb restoration including the fitting of oak panelling and a lot of bespoke oak furniture. I managed to scrounge a few off cuts and have made a few pens out of it, including a fountain pen for the owner. I won't bore you with pictures of all of them but...

    Pink ivory omega

TM Omega with pink ivory. Don't know whether it's the weather but the woodturners finish came out a bit flat and dull which is unusual.

    Bench Drill Press - Question

Gents, I know this topic has been covered before, and everyone has their own preference, but I am after some specific advice. I currently use my lathe for drilling my blanks and other than the faf of moving the tail stock every few cm, it does a reasonably good job, but on sizes above 10mm, I...

    Which pen kits?

I've just started turning pens, and am looking to try out some different kits. The problem is that the choice is a bit overwhelming! So far I've tried a few Sierra and Executive kits from Vince at The Turners Workshop, which I've liked. I also had a few slimline (I assume) kits, which came...
