    Offcuts

Thought I would use up some bits from my ever increasing pile of offcuts. With the varying degrees of hardness & end grain it was a bit of a bugger to turn! Pat

    kit suggestions

this is a slow burning project. I need a kit that is as straight as possible- ideally the barrel will have bushings that are the same size each end and the cap the same size each end. I need at least 1mm of wood in thickness when turned. Any suggestions? the alpha might work, but I don't know...

My Latest Custom Pen - Solution for the Fountain-Impaired

My wife is new to the world of fountain pens, so there has been a steep learning curve over the past months. So much to do – fill, clean and refill, adjust one’s grasp and even change the attack on the paper – there’s a lot to learn. Compounding this, she struggled to fill from a bottle with...

    A weekend of utter faliure.

Morning ladies and gents, I had an awful weekend in the workshop this weekend...... I went to the shop Friday evening and cut, drilled and glues a number of blanks up (2 siroccos, a mistral rb, a Chairman fp, and a few 7mm twist pens of various names.) I drill on the lathe using my nova chuck...

    Leveche in Brown Mallee

Hi All, Felt I had to thank Phil at Beaufort Ink for having the Leveche. I love crafting a pen when everything about it, the components, the wood, the overall look and even the great bushes, all come together. It was such a pleasure making this pen from beginning to end and that feeling of...

Custom Fountain in Burl and Alumilite

I have been struggling for months to come up with a way to make a custom ("kitless") pen that allows for the use of wood. This one is a stabilized maple burl with Alumilite fittings. The body of the pen is sleeved with a brass tube. Then alumilite fittings were turned with a tenon. Boring...

    Back to the lathe

Not done much turning for the past two years due to a house sale which took ages and a problem with bad headaches caused by displaced occipital nerves, both problems having been solved and a move to a house with a 20 x 8 foot garage I thought once the house had been sorted turning here I come...

    Pen mandrel for closed end.

Hi All, I came across a great article by Mickr on the IAP forum on how to make a closed end pen using a standard pen mandrel. So I decided to give it a try. I loved the process and my favourite part is the making and installing of the plug. I am glad I used a small piece of 7mm pen tube as...

    Scratch (ish) pens

I have downloaded the instructions from the Tutorials section for making Firearms pens. I have laid out the parts and it appears the lower section ie. the bullet and the case will be shorter that the 7mm tube. This means the 7mm tube will be sticking out the end of the bullet case which in turn...

    I wonder

The hotel for my holidays left everyone this pen as a gift. The nib end is stylus but with a slight twist and a click turns into a normal pen with the nib coming though the stylus. Just have to remember its out before using the stylus. The pen is a comfort pen and lives up to its name. The clip...
