Hi all... I have turned a couple of pens and decided to attempt to turn a bowl... a whole different set of potential problems.. but it went quite well I think for a beginner... and my wife is chuffed with it (and as we all know... That's what really matters!) From this to this to this...

    My closed end competition entry

This is my closed end competition entry. The pen is made from black Parapan with Chrome fitting from and Omega I did intend to have both end closed, but the cap end was so thin the black ended up looking blue, even after spraying the inside with black paint. So I cut the cap down to the end of...

    Spalted Cherry twist pen

This spalted cherry is so very soft takes some working. Found that CA glue on the end before turning helps to stop it fraying. Nothing fancy but I think it works well enough with the black.

My first ever ever turning project (ever)

OK, today I turned my first ever pen. More a chance to test the lathe and my tools etc, rather than creating a work of art! I bought 5 Axminster slim line pen kits and 5 cheap wood blanks to start to develop my turning skills. After a shaky start (wasn't sure which way the bushings went on the...

    Shaving set

Custom order for a shaving set with safety razor in Yew with acrylic finish. The razor handle was a pig - well I suppose it was always going to be working end grain lol but worth it in the end. This was an off cut from a piece I am saving for a pen. Not the best pictures but give a good idea.

Hello to all. Thought I'd introduce myself and show you a pic of my latest creation. I'm living in Surrey, had my lathe a number of years doing odds and ends, but nothing seriously. Am now retired and trying to learn more about woodturning and get some results from my time in the shed. Have...

I have a record 6 inch bench grinder with a white wheel one end and a thinner coarse wheel on the other end,I am thinking of changing the coarse wheel so I can have one end for bowl gouges and the other for all the others. What wheel would be best, what grit and colour should use?:thinks: Does...
