    What a world!

I'm new the wood turning and very much learning as I go on. One thing that really impresses me is how supportive other woodturners are! I'm Keiron, 32 years old, I live in midwales and have a very small workshop in my garage. I say work shop, it consists of a table saw, planer thicknesser...

    Hello (and HELP!!!)

Hello All. I am very much a beginner at pen making/woodturning although I did occasionally use my Dad's lathe about 30 or so years ago and have kept all of his woodworking tools (but not the lathe). I spent some time researching lathes and equipment and eventually deciding I was mainly...

My small steps towards turning my first pen...

Hi, after a warm welcome here in the forum, I am now slowly taking steps towards turning my first pen. A couple of days ago I rummaged through the outhouses at my fathers place, I knew I saw some wood turning tools there a long time ago... I took these home with me: I decided to try to...

    Making an index plate

Started this a few months ago and put it aside. When done (??) I should be able to mount it on the left end of the headstock spindle of my Clausing metal lathe and the wood lathe. 7-1/4'' x 60 tooth saw blade. Even with carbide tools on the metal lathe it was tough to cut out the disc.

    Axminster precision lathe

I have been given an axminster precision pen turning lathe which comes with a 24x1 collet and axminster evolution mandrel. I have my full size lathe as well am am finding this second small lathe is great for doing my pens. The collet system is great but I would live to be able to drill my blanks...

    Small space lathe.

Hello all. I'm at the stage when I'm looking to buy a lathe and items. Proxxon DB 50 is the model I've decided on. Both for cost and size. I'll be working in a very confined space in a conservatory. My main work will be making fishing floats, but I'd love to try and make a pen or two. So...

    Bowls No3 and 4

I'm new to turning, but am pretty pleased with bowl 3 and 4, and really excited about my next creation, on the lathe now. Inspired by YouTuber Jim Overton it's sapele with a laser cut acrylic inlay miliput. And no 4

Ever Had One Of Those Days?

It's not been a good few days. If it could go wrong it has - two blanks blown out on me and for some unfathomable reason I cut a beautiful spalted blank too short - I measured it once, cut it twice (that's right isn't it?) and it was still too short! I have stayed away from the lathe today in...

    Metal lathe

A few months back, I bought a Boley metalworking lathe- 1930/40s vintage at a guess. Aside from a couple of grub screws, a chuck key and couple of other minot bits, it is about set up, and these parts are on their way. I also have ordered some hss blanks to grind tooling.. I have never used a...

    Hello

I have just joined this forum, I have only made 4 pens so far, but in a maddening attempt to find products to sell I make all sorts. I recently made a Panache pen with Wild African Olive Wood for a sample to send to a London shop that had showed interest in my work, unfortunately after the...

    Push Button oiler ball Stuck!

One of the Push Button oilers ball is stuck in my lathe. I have pulled the brass housing out, but the ball is stuck about 25 mm in. I tried getting a magnetised rod to try and pull it out, didn't work.:rant: Is there any way to get it out with out pulling the carriage to bits. The lathe...

A new thing for me transferring pictures onto wood once I get it right then these will go off to various veteran groups as fundraisers but first I need to know what people think of the idea I know this one isn't perfect so I'm not looking for quality comments just comments on the concept as this...

    Zeta dressed in Cranberry Crush

First time I have used the new Bosch Pillar drill to drill out the blanks. I have to say it was a lot easier than when I did it on the lathe, so I'm a happy camper now :-)

    Changing mini lathe

I am thinking of changing my Mini Lathe which is a Axminster AWVSL ( 700241 ) Although it is quite good I find the draw back is that if you have to replace the drive belt it is a major operation and also although it is variable speed you have to manually change the positions of the belt. Is...
