    Problem I think

I am in the process of making a "Dawnguard" pen in acrylic. I have turned it without any issues and have polished it up, however when I tried taking the blank off of the mandrel it was met with a little resistance so I gave it a good old tug. When I came to assemble the pen I noticed movement...

    Root Beer Kitless

This one is a little simpler than the last one I shared, much less work with less furniture, (i.e. no clips or rings). I must say the Kirinite blanks really are lovely to work with and, provided you sand properly, they polish up to a fabulous shine. This is Root Beer with Black Pearl accents...

    Beware the millennieals are travelling

:goesred: THESE ARE ACTUAL COMPLAINTS RECEIVED BY "THOMAS COOK VACATIONS" FROM DISSATISFIED CUSTOMERS 1. "On my holiday to Goa in India, I was disgusted to find that almost every restaurant served curry. I don't like spicy food." 2. "They should not allow topless sunbathing on the beach...

    Worst pen todate

Well this started with my post asking about what wood shouldn't we use for pens. One moderator, Phil, said Balsa wood. So up for a challenge I bought a piece of 12mm X 12mm and cut it to fit a slim line kit that I had. Drilling no problem. First CA glued tube, in, second CA glued tube stuck...

Bad experience with Blue 1 ply Hand Towel bought from sjone-online Ebay. When used with friction polish etc and also burnishing the blue come out of the paper into the wood. Had to sand down to get rid. The trouble now is that I have over 2000 of these towels and also a brand new dispenser. Any...

    Irish Bog Oak Shakespeare

My first of this kit and i already love it. This and the Mistral are easily my favourite 2 fountain pen kits. I stopped using a Ca finish on my Bog Oak a long time ago. Now i sand it, use sealer, sand it back then rub with denatured alcohol and a dark bees wax. Leaves a beautiful natural finish...

    My pen finishing procedure

First I would like to thank you for your comments on my Tempest pens. I use Stick Fast CA. Start by applying a couple coats of thin just to seal the wood. Next I wipe on 5 coats (min) of medium. I apply with a piece of folded paper towel. To apply the medium CA I put a drop on the towel and...

    Bullet key chain

Didn't want to steal Jim's thread. I buy spectra ply in 1x10x35 panel. For pen blanks I rip them 3/4 square. The strip left over I thickness sand to use for Celtic Knot blanks. This happens to be the pink and blue.

    Novus 1-2-3 Question

I've come up with an acrylic polishing method that has been working well for me. I wet sand with 320 and 400 grit; wet sand with all 9 grades of Micro Mesh pads; use Novus 3 and 2; and finally finish polishing with Meguiar's PlastX. The Novus sytem, though, comes with 1, 2, and 3. #1 is called...
