OK the cyclone works I put a dustpan of sawdust through it and 95% dropped into the bucket and 5 into the collection bag so I'm thinking of venting the 5% out through the wall 
and put together
I could reduce the footprint using this setup but I have one more option to experiment with next week I'll keep you posted and see what works best for me

Thanks mark its a bit heath Robinson but it does work it basically makes clearing the saw chips less tedious if i had the space to keep both the cyclone and the bag setup to work together then it would take 1year or more to fill the bag but this setup could all change got other things to try before i make my choice .cheers Frankie
Ok been chasing a dust solution for a bit and have tried a few things my latest discovery is I think really good, I have seen the canisters that go
on top and thought they look like the ones in the diggers I drive, so went on ebay and you can get them for 19 quid 21 inches by9 3/4 I got mine free and its only 15"x10"
but it works great, no loss of suction and most importantly no fine dust that would normaly escape through the top bag, these filters stop dust going into engines so it's a great addition to the dust collecter, The pic just shows it temporarily fitted but it work great hope it might inspire someone else to try it

yes jim it is but I enjoyed making the cyclone and it works but this is what I'm going to use I will keep the cyclone stored somwhere Frankie.
Just thought I would show this again its a lorry air filter and it stops the fine dust without any loss of suction it works great and you can buy them cheep on ebay.

Yes Jim,The purpose made ones cost a fortune you can get this type on ebay for £20 and it really works well.
I can certainly vouch for that
When purchasing a lorry filter can you get information such as the volume of air that is designed to pass through it in a set time period, also how fine is the filtration? I believe the purpose built ones filter to 1 micron or maybe below this.
Well with the bag i could see the fine stuff with this i see nothing but im sure you could get that info
Has anyone tried the air filter method yet Frankie.

We can all joke about dust and leaving the door open but I can tell you its no joke. I was given the news that my cancer of the voice box appears to be cleared only a few months ago but I still have check ups every 6 weeks.
When I was lying on the radiotherapy table each day I cursed myself for being gung ho about the dust in the shed over the years. I have now bought a powered dust mask and a large dust extractor and restricted my turning to pens because there is less dust than with bowls etc. I don't want to put a damper on things but if my experience prevents only one of you from getting cancer it will be worth while.
