Well I have finished them at last. The painting and decorating seem to take twice as long as the turning part.

Long but thiner than 2 mm

Hi all, There is a special exercise we have here in France since tree centuries or so, that is turning a piece of wood as long as possible, with a very thin "hair" and some bigger motives or "masses". We call it a "trembleur", a shivering piece. I wonder if there is a word in English for that...

    On a roll

After seeing Ken's (hawkeyefxr) post on his very fortunate wood stash the luck must have come down this way as today my sisters arrived for my Aunties funeral tomorrow and they dropped in for a cuppa and a chat. Help needed with pen kit fitting diameters

Hi All, I have made and finished 2 pen blanks, 1 is 47.5 m/m long and the other is 44 m/m long. The bore in the brass tubes is 7.47-7.5 mm. I haven't a clue how this happened as I thought I was making a slimline. My problem now is finding a 2 piece kit like the slimline that will fit the 7.5 m/m...

    Quilted Tasmanian Blackwood

This timber has so many faces from shimmering like a shot silk tie to twisted tough quilted grain.
