Good - Bad - Ugly comments all welcome

    Epsilon issue

I have just turned my first batch of Epsilons. I like the pen, and they were nice and quick to complete, so have potential to make a profit. I turned them well, even if I say so myself. They were exactly to component size and the ends were perfectly square. On assembly, I have had a couple of...

First time trying a pine cone blank.

A mini pine cones blank on a Shakespeare rollerball. I wasn't sure what to expect from this but think it turned out well enough.

    Unknow wood

Bowl from unknown wood possibly hawthorn I turned this yesterday but had to wait until today to complete the finish and remove the foot. Measures 8 1/2" X 2 1/4", I left the rim wide otherwise I would have lost a lot of the character of the wood even if I turned the blank the other way round

    Walnut Bowl

Walnut bowl approximately 11" sealed and buffed. This was from a trunk that I got last year and rough turned which means I was able to complete turning sooner rather than later

Just popping in to say hi from Ireland. Been turning for a good few years, began in '93. Been away from it for a few years and have taken up the chisels again a few months ago. Things have changed a lots in a few years! Turned my 1st pen around '97/'98 but haven't turned many over the years...

Couple of Tempests in stabilised driftwood

One dyed, one not. I've said it before, but I do like the way features appear as they are turned!

Shakespeare in stabilised and dyed driftwood

So the less than colourful dyed driftwood blank was draped over my first Shakespeare. Love the kit, and pretty pleased with the match to the blank, a happy accident . A small hole appeared as I turned the barrel, which I filled with aluminium.

First Pen I've turned for over 3 months!

Last night I got round to turning my first pen in over 3 months! It's just a slimline pen turned from one of my own cast coffee bean blanks which was left over from my last coffee bean casting experiment.

    Stabilised driftwood Tempest

Picked this up on a beach in Wales, then stabilised. No idea what it is but it was really nice to watch it appear as I turned it!

Pen of the Week - 17 April 2017

This weeks Pen of the Week chosen by Fingwe goes to the Mistral Ball Point pen made by DJB Penmaker (Derek) Melanie said "It was a hard choice, but this one edged it for me. It looks flawlessly turned and finished, and the blank and kit go perfectly together". Here is the link to Derek's...

    Stabilised Spalted Beech Zeta

Just tried my hand at home stabilising. This was a test piece which was a scrap bit of spalted beech, which was really quite punky. Well, I was very pleased withe the stabilising and the way it turned. I finished it using the Melamine method, and tuned it into a Zeta. Overall, for a process...

Casting Accident which Turned Out Nice

Hi all, I cast some polyester blanks which turned ugly. I ended up with two halves and made a whole with four colours. While all a bit of an accident I think there is potential in this technique. I sanded the halves, CA glued together, and turned/polished. A few defects .... small crack, tiny...

    2 down...

... Only 34 to go!:funny: Luckily the brief for these Honey dippers is that they are all individuals, so no template and all turned freestyle! This one was Ali's idea!
