    Another dafty question

Another dafty question by yours truly. For those of you that use CA as a finish do you use the thin or the medium type? I only ask this as applying the 5 coats of thin yesterday to a pen seemed easier than when I have attempted (and mostly failed) to use the medium. Not sure if it was my...

    Turners' jacket

I am in the need of a new turners' smock. The one I have been using for a couple of years is now (sadly) coming to the end of its days. Glue, paint, cuts and tears have taken their toll. It is an Axminster one which has been OK but it is very thin and was looking for something tougher, like...

    Finished

Hi all, my little project is now finally done...... Other than the little bloody white ribbons everywhere and sweating on if I go too thin, I have enjoyed turning these! ???

    White and Red

Hi All, thank you for all the comments recently. I have tried to incorporate your advise including tapered section and insert threads into this pen. I wanted to add a red band around the section but ran out of red blanks, trying and failing to cut very thin thread against a thin wall so had...

    Zeta with my mystery wood

Still have no clue what this wood is but I'm enjoying making a few pens with it. This is my first fairly successful attempt at a CA finish. Please feel free to give me any hints and tips for CA finishing. All I did was 3 coats of thin, 2 of thick then sanded from 600 to 3600 and hit it with...

    Second pen turned

We'll back in the shed and turned my second pen. Remembered to trim blanks before starting to turn !! Used a couple of costs of thin CA followed by a few coats of super thin CA and wet sanded for longer came out good I think, even used it for a birthday present!!

Long but thiner than 2 mm

Hi all, There is a special exercise we have here in France since tree centuries or so, that is turning a piece of wood as long as possible, with a very thin "hair" and some bigger motives or "masses". We call it a "trembleur", a shivering piece. I wonder if there is a word in English for that...

CA Glue - Thin or Medium

Apologies if I am asking an old question. Does anyone have a preference when using CA to glue in the brass tubes. I tried using medium today as I could see more of a gap between the blank and the brass tube, but I found it lessoned the movement of the brass tube going in the pre drilled hole...

    latest work

Haven't turned a pen in awhile. Been busy with other things. These serpentines represent colours of a couple NFL teams. Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears. Both are birds eye Maple. Normally I would flood 3-5 coats of thin ca then 5 coats of medium ca and sand/polish. This time I applied...

Chrome Bolt Action Thin Blue Line

This is a Chrome Bolt Action Thin Blue Line I call it Thin Blue Line for obvious reasons, but I used a blank I had from Timberbits and I am sure it wasn't called that. Peter

    Another Thin Blue Line pen

Although I cannot compete with Terry's beautiful serpentine Thin Blue Line pens - here is one I made for a colleague. There is actually a thin blue line running through the Union flag which doesn't show up too well in the photo. He is also a Freemason (no jokes please), hence the clip and the...

    Thin Blue Line

Folks Friend of mine is a copper and I want to make him a pen to celebrate a change of role. I want to put a "thin blue line" down the centre of the blank, probably by cutting a wooden blank in half and gluing something in there. My question is, what can I use to create the blue line? TiA! Coll

    Band saw help

I have a Scheppach hbs 20 bench band saw all worked well, had to put in a new blade no problem, followed the instructions fitted fine worked ok . I have only cut a few bits with the new blade, now when I cut anything thick or thin the cut goes to the right. So I take off the blade and...
